IMG 0891 smTruth or Consequences in Sierra County New Mexico offers up a host of delights and one of our favorites is a movie date at the El Cortez Theater.  Earlier this year we celebrated in our own fashion with a post holiday showing of Star Wars:  The Last Jedi.

It was a blast and a half to see this flick in a true family theater setting.  The owners and their kids were selling tickets, slinging popcorn, and serving up frosty beverages.  It was a nearly full house as we took our seats!

If you're staying in downtown T or C you can make this a walking evening.  Catch some dinner at El Faro for some authentic Mexican - delicious stuff.  Or try a bit of upscale Asian fusion over at Latitude 33.  We can vouch for the spring rolls, Thai peanut noodles, and the Shrimp/Orzo salad.  There are a few other joints in the neighborhood that are worth a trip as well, including A & B Drive In if you're craving burgers and shakes.

Once you've filled your belly, you're going to begin working it off nearly immediately.  The El Cortez is up on the hill which is a bit of a climb.  But it's all good - it just gives you the excuse to get a big bucket of popcorn and a couple of large cokes. Theater seating is a bit old but it's comfy - seats into which you can sink. At only $6 a seat, this is a great bargain and leaves plenty of spending money for that popcorn.  As a matter of fact, Patrick and I escaped with only $20 spent and that included our popcorn and pop.  We were actually used to paying close to that amount for one movie ticket back in the big city!

We had a full house for the Star Wars showing and it was a blast!  The screen is not the most high-tech but it delivers a decent picture.  At the time of this writing, we are back at the holidays and the new imagining of The Nutcracker (Disney) is playing.  The Grinch is on deck and we can't wait to go check out this classic on the large screen.

Apres movie, you can catch a treat in town.  If you like treats of an adult nature, come down the hill to Truth or Consequences Brewery to try a craft brew or cider.  You might even catch a great live music act.  If you decide to grab your car, head out towards the I25 exit for a wealth of tasty fast food treats.  Grab a late night Pizza at The Hut, take a table at Denny's for breakfast, or head to Sonic for a limitless choice of drinks, slushes, and ice cream treats.
